The purpose of a Bowenwork session is to activate the innate healing mechanisms in the body such that with time the autonomic nervous system (ANS) (1) self-regulates, (2) moves energy more freely, and (3) heals to the capacity the body is able, often profoundly. The work is gentle to the body given the overarching philosophy of the practice -- “less is best”. As Bowenwork Practitioners, we provide only enough inputs to elicit the body’s healing response. The number of inputs and length of rest periods is determined for each client during each session; hence the sessions don't have a fixed duration, and vary from a few moments to an hour in length. Rest periods are an integral part of all session work. It's during the rest periods that the body begins the dynamic work of "unwinding" and healing. Rest periods between each sequence of targeted moves are essential to the success of the work. Giving rest periods allows the body time to process the work according to each individual's healing needs.

Hi Lisa, Wanted to write a testimonial for you in gratitude for all you have helped me with. Bowenwork with Lisa Toole has been a God send for me. Lisa takes her time and is very wise, comforting and gifted.
I have been struggling with chronic pain over the past 16 years due to a neurological disorder that causes my muscles to spasm and contract throughout my body, called Dystonia. I have tried many therapies over the years and nothing has really helped me until now. My very first session was really quite amazing....it was gentle but VERY effective! I felt such a release in my body and a sense of calm and relaxation. Lisa is also very knowledgeable in nutrition and has helped me with digestive issues as well. As I move forward in the process of my healing, I will continue to trust Lisa to help me at a pace that is best for me. Thank you Lisa! -Connie S., York, ME
